Lange 1 v.s Glasshute Original ...plus a few other questions
Thanks for any thoughts or input.

Answer:
Hey Dean,I think the solution to your problem is obvious. Go with Lange, and buy the rose gold with black dial AND the platinum with silver dial. You can't go wrong, because you won't second guess yourself!!Seriously, I would personally think that, while the G.O. is also a fine watch, Lange is certainly the more prestigious and DEFINITELY the more innovative manufacturer. Look at the design of some of the G.O. watches - they have definitely "borrowed" from other brands (for instance, they completely ripped off the Lange 1 design for the "Pano" line). So, for my money, I say Lange blows G.O. away. And I think you are dead on about your salesman - he would like you to purchase a watch that he actually carries! As for choosing between rose gold and platinum, you'll have to decide for yourself. I personally think the platinum "stealth" model is the finest looking watch made today...PERIOD. But that's my taste. If you prefer the look of the rose gold, you should go with the rose gold. I wouldn't worry about which is "fancier" or "more exclusive". The question is, which do you like better? And, as you already know, that may not be an easy choice to make!!Enjoy the decision-making process and let us know which way you go. Whether you choose rose gold or platinum, I'm certain you are going to be happy with your new lifelong friend.Best Regards,Brian: Hey Guys,: Any thoughts on how Lange compares in quality to Glashute Original? Answer:
Hey Brian, thanks for your thoughts on these watches. I did go back and look at pictures of some of the GO watches and you are right they do seem to borrow ideas from other companies. I prefer the looks of the Lange to anything by GO, I just wanted to hear what others thought of one of Lange's hometown neighbors, since the salesman at a place I have bought a number of watches was telling me I should get a GO instead of a Lange.I guess which metal to choose is as you said a personal choice. I guess the best thing to do is to keep an open mind and wait until I see the watches next week in person. Thanks again for your help,Dean
Answer:
I have seen pictures of them from the side in yellow gold and in white gold and they appear to have a brushed finish along sides of the case. I have also seen a picture of the watch in rose gold and in platinum...do these watches also have a brushed finish on the sides of their cases, they didn't appear to but I could be wrong. Thanks for any help on this question,
Dean
Answer:
as well as the back of the case. Rose gold center case is all polished on sides and back. Doesn't seem to bother most people but it does me. I much prefer the contrast of polished and brushed. Done for reasons of tarnishing of brushed pink gold....although other watches I've seen with brushed rose gold cases haven't had this 'problem'. But that is how it is done in the Lange world.Answer:
sides can be brushed by an authorized Lange dealer if so desired.Answer:
of the case, of course, and some expertise at polishing. Wouldn't have thought most dealers would have that sophisticated source to brush finish a case after the fact.Anyone have this done???? Would be interested to see how it turned out.Answer:
I love the rose gold of the Lange's but also cherish the brushed sides of their other metals. I was told I could have the best of both worlds. E-mail me for further minutia if you wish.Answer:
first I have heard of this. The folks at Lange insist that if they brush the sides of the pink gold case, it will tarnish easier than if they keep it polished. If the store will do that, it is without the approval of the factory.
Answer:
I have never heard of this before. I didn't think gold would tarnish? Has anyone had problems with their Langes tarnishing or are most of the watches out there too new for this to be a problem yet? Also is the rose gold more prone to tarnishing due to the alloys in used to make rose gold? Thanks,
Dean
Answer:
rose gold, the Lange RG is 4N (5N is even higher in copper content, and is sometimes referred to as red gold), contains a high copper content, giving it the characteristic color. I understand the color is not stable over time, though the timescale we are talking about is in decades.
Answer:
When you say the color is not stable over time do you mean it will darken or look rusted? It will certainly make me reconsider whether rose gold is a wise choice, even if I do think it is really nice looking. Or maybe I should only consider rose gold on a less expensive watch like a JLC. Any idea if other brands rose gold watches are prone to tarnishing? If memory serves me correctly I am pretty sure I have seen a JLC Reverso and an AP in RG with some brushed finishing. I wonder if these also have the same potential tarnishing problem or if it is specific to Lange based on the composition of the copper content in their RG watches? Thanks for any thoughts or input on this issue,DeanAnswer:

The re-polished case is identical in appearance to the original. I cannot say if they will do this to modify a case from factory specifications.
Answer:
I'll mention a few as I see it. The Lange 1 put German watchmaking back on the map - on an even par with the great Swiss brands. It is a classic. Second, as good as GO is, it's a better watch - particularly IMHO, the quality of the casework. (Check each out in person.) Three, it has a certain presence - not just related to size.Which model? (Do as I say, not as I do ;-) Try and check them out in person. It's a big investment and a very personal decision. There are a lot in NYC right now - the airfare may not be significant vs. the price of the watch. Go to a great restaurant, maybe see a play. Personally, I like the platinum/silver dial - it looks a bit like stainless but is much heavier and the heft feels great every time you put it on the wrist - surprisngly comfotable for its size/weight. It is a Q ship ("stealth") watch and may not get noticed at all - some like this characteristic, some don't. (But many here prefer the pink/silver dial - and it is less money. It also looks like the expensive masterpiece that it is - ask a salesperson to put it on their wrist and you may be sold;-)Send me an email if any other questions.: Hey Guys,: Any thoughts on how Lange compares in quality to Glashute Original? Answer:
I bought the platinum with the black dial for several reasons. First, I didn't want a YG or RG "dressy" watch; I wanted a watch that I could wear with anything. I wanted the black dial, and the only metal available with the black dial is the platinum. I also preferred it over the silver dial because I love the contrast. The black with the platinum is very dramatic while still being conservative because the dial is such a clean uncluttered design. I also love the applied romans on the black dial, compared to the printed numerals. All in all, it's a great combination of black and silver textures. And, in response to Eman; No, I will never, ever tire of this watch.
