Where is Watchbore?
What would the horological equivalent of an anorak be today?
He is a man who not only knows knows the name of every single component of the Double Split, but he also remembers where Walter Lange was born and how many metres above sea level the Glashutte factory is located.
Can anyone suggest a name for this species, the horological equivalent of an Anorak?
It must be a word which somehow captures the obsessiveness and the mind-numbing tedium of the true watch bore?
And, since I have mentioned him, whatever happended to Watchbore? Not so long ago he provided the only spark of humour - and a heck of a lot of lot of knowledge too - on this forum.
Humour is, alas, a commodity, sadly lacking from this forum. Come back Watchbore. You are needed now more than ever.
Answer:
He was made a moderator, so .... I also miss the character very much here on TZ. The grotesque combination of endless knowledge and Wilde-like wit, reducing Pateks to "gadgets", roasting criticless worshippers with irony (and sometimes sarcasm). He was a Joker, a libero, challenging the much-too-serious tone, which occasionally occurs. Soon after my "debut" on TZ (year 2000) I myself became a victim of his wit, when asking a trivial question (which I no longer recall). It took me a litte while to find out what this "Watchbore" was up to, and then I had to surrender to his humour.
Now, I don't even know if he's still moderator here, but that certainly put him to silence.
Yes, it would nice to have THE Watchbore, or a least A Watchbore back.

to his wit. And I apologise for being humourless in these hallowed halls.
Answer:
What I meant was: As a moderator you can have a lot of humour (like you and many other moderators here!), but I guess you can hardly act like Watchbore did, especially towards "the gadget factory". Watchbore anarchistically hit on anyone and anything, a freedom you cannot have as a moderator to that extend. Whether I'm wrong or not on this can be discussed, but I think it's a fact that Mr Hyde disappeared, when Dr Jekyll became moderator. Sven
