Once in a lifetime opportunity to fulfill my Omega dreams

I have finally convinced my wife that I am deserving of an Omega (although she still doesn’t get the whole "expensive watch" thing). So this is my "one" opportunity! Which watch should I get. I have been reading these forums for a few months no but I’m still not any closer to a decision. Was wondering if some of you veterans had a point of view. This is where I’m at:
I love the classic Speedmaster Pro. The design the heritage and function. But If I get this I have to get the one with the sapphire crystal because I tend to be hard on things. This adds around $500 to price. I’m a little concerned about winding it everyday but I think it will become second nature and something that I will actual grow to love.
I really like the white dial Broad Arrow but I’m concerned about the price and the mixed reviews I’ve read about the movement and lack of sales because of the price. I really, really like the looks of this watch. I like the hands, sapphire and date feature the automatic movement.
The other day, out of the blue, I saw a Speedmaster Date (3513.30.00) on someone’s wrist and really liked how that looked, and I like the price, but I don’t see many Tzers talking about this model. I atually looks so much better on the wrist than is the jewlery store.
And last but not least I really like the simple lines of the Seamaster (2054.50.00) in black but I kind of feel it’s a Rolex Sub rip-off (really, really, sorry if I offend anyone!) and it really looks like a dive watch as apposed to the Bond model which has nicer hands and markers (I just don’t particularly like the blue of the Bond).
So here I am. Please help me out! I have been given this “once in a lifetime opportunity” to fulfill my Omega dreams. What would you choose?
Also, Could anyone advise me on the best place to purchase any of these? Thanks again!

Answer:
:I have three Omegas...Love each one for different reasons....I just bought a Rolex GMT Red.Black and immediately {2 days} returned it......My 2054 is my favorite.....and it is simply not a Rolex Sub knockoff.....and I didn;t take offense to what you said......but once you wear it.....compare it....evaluate it....and enjoy it.....it is WAAAAY better than any Rolex on my wrist and I keep puting back on because it FEELS good and looks AWESOME...but in the end....its really up to you to decide what you like looking at.....the winding thing for me would get old.....

Answer:
months ago. I bought the classic hesalite covered speedy and never looked back, no regrests, would definitely do it agin. If you get a speedmaster, I highly recommend the original.
Answer:
First, the Seamaster has a long rich history just as Rolex and others do.
so no it is not a Rolex rip-off. The best way to pic (and I have gone through the exact process you are) is to simply look at them all. AND PICK THE ONE YOU LIKE.
Also, why do you assume you will be "hard on it"? I highly recomend saphire however I have a newer moon and the plastic crystal goes right along wit hthe mechanical winding in my view. I love it. A tube of polywatch will keep your plastic looking good. BUT if it were me......... I would get.......
nah! You decide. What do you like???? Thats your watch. Remember these days men wear sports watchs for business also and even at times a more dressy watch (Omega Deville - new style or Aqua Terra) for casual. So what do you like?
See how easy? And oh ya one last thing....after you make your decision and bring it home?
you will WISH YOU GOT THE OTHER ONE YOU LIKED. Its simply watch madness math. So go get it and wear it.
All the best Kevin
Answer:
One watch. One shot. Make it count.
I won't give you any watch advice, but as far as deciding, I have found it helpful to print off pictures of the ones that interest me and just look at them from time to time (and learn about them on here, etc.). I have also gotten some feedback from my wife which was helpful. After a few days some of the options could be eliminated and after a couple of weeks I narrowed it down to one watch that I felt confident would be righ for me. My jeweler is currently ordering one in for me to look at for the final decision. Take your time and enjoy the process. And good luck!
Answer:
Dear GeneC,
1. Do your research - this forum, other web sites, window shopping, books, magazines, other brands, etc.
2. Go to watch stores with comprehensive collections.
3. Select all of the watches that you like.
4. Try them all on and determine which one you like the most.
5. Find out which authorised dealer is cheapest for you.
6. Think about it for a week (this is the hardest part)
7. Go and pay.
8. Wear and enjoy.
9. Tell TZers how happy you are
p.s. (IMHO)Any watch in the 1500USD to 5000USD is about the right budget for a brand new good quality luxury watch. Over 5000USD and you are probably into the specialist top end watches - only worth it if you're either 1) a watch afficionado and 2) have big wads of spare cash. Under 1500USD and you are probably bordering on the lower quality luxury watches. That's not a precise range and of course there's always discounts to be had. Again (IMHO) you should be able to get a 35% discount off the recommended price from an authorised dealer. Work that out over the period you'll own it and it's actually quite cheap per year. Ultimately - don't worry about the expenditure - just pick the one that you like the most.

Gene,
As a mall jewelry store saleswoman recently told me "It's ok for a man to buy an expensive watch, because it's like jewelry only with function!"
Earlier this year I took my one shot at buying a watch. My wife didn't get it either and then I offered to trade in my mid-life crisis for a new Omega (I'm in my mid-40's). She thought that was an excellent deal (considering the alternatives) and even helped me pick it out! I won't tell you which one because I don't want to influence your decision. I will tell you that I tried on every model Omega makes, a few Rolex's, Breitling's and even a couple of Tags. Many of them were very cool and a few of them were well outside my price range. I knew immediately which watch was "the one" when I tried it on. My best advice would be to try on lots of watches and don't be in a big hurry. Lurk a little here, ask questions and read between the lines. You can get a good watch and a good deal if you are diligent.
Happy Hunting!
Just in case it's not obvious, the mid-life crisis thing is a joke....I've been happily married 20+ years. My wife has picked up my arm on several occasions and said "Have you seen Joe's mid-life crisis?"
cheers,
joe

This is the one Omega that is considered an icon, due to it's association with the space program and the conquest of the moon. Don't worry about the acrylic crystal. In fact, if you're hard on watches, I'd recommend the acrylic crystal. It's easy to polish, and if it cracks, it only costs about $20 to replace. And you'll know that you're wearing the same watch that is currently being used aboard the ISS. You won't regret the Moonwatch!

Answer:
Of course, I'm a space geek, so this is REALLY neat to me. Your mileage may vary.

Answer:
From OMEGA catalogue: ".....as well as other HIGH-CLASS models such as the Central Tourbillon and the new Speedmaster Broad Arrow, which represent the pinnacle in OMEGA craftsmanship."
Among the watches you mentioned, Broad Arrow is clearly the choice. It has the looks, the water resistancy, the quality......
As the most expensive speedmaster in SS, it certainly lacks sales comparing with other cheaper models. Just ask any TZer who owns this watch, they will tell you it is simply fantastic watch. [It's on my wrist for 10months now.]
Answer:
...and it's been offered before. Once you've made your choice let us all know what you did, and what your impressions are of the watch you bought. Then NEVER come back here. I have 4 Omegas and wonder when the madness will stop.
Answer:
Since bit by the Omega bug, I have owned four, and presently have three of them.
There is a lot to be said for each model you mentioned. The Speedy Moonwatch is undoubtedly THE classic Omega, and worthy of about any collection. I like the saphire crystal as well.
I own the blk/blk Seamaster Pro automatic, and have never owned a watch I liked to wear more. Flat profile, high quality, and extremely comfortable on the Bond Bracelet or "domed" rubber strap and flip over deployant.
If I could have only one Omega from your list, it would be the white dial Broad Arrow on the bracelet, which is what I bought just this week. It is dressy but still sporty, highly legible, and about the same size of the SeMP. I like the black dial as well, but it is difficult for my tired old eyes in bright light, and I do think white dialed watches are more dressy. I too have read the reviews on the Broad Arrow et al movement, but really am not concerned as they have two year warranties, and from my personal experience Omega in Bienne is excellent at making a watch right, in the unlikely event you do have a problem.
As for price, a Broad Arrow will cost two or three times the price of a Seamaster Pro, but you can buy them considerably cheaper than the $4,495.00 list, if you ask around.
I would wish you good luck, but with any of the Omega's you mentioned you won't need it, since you can't go wrong! As they say, get the one which "smiles" at you.
