You know, the customs form required for a watch to go back to Bienne. Also, where should one put the form in question? Inside the package?

Tom Fill out the form and print it. Get it signed by a Customs Agent and then make about 3 copies of it. Put the original and one of the copies in the package going to Switzerland. Omega will then return the form when they send your watch back.

That extra copy is so that you will have a copy available, should anything happen and you need to show proof.

What is your advice if you live nowhere near a US Customs Office? I have returned watches to Omega and other Swiss companies over the years and have never had any problems with Customs trying to charge me when the watches were returned.

The Swiss Customs paperwork indicates the contents of the package is a watch returned from being repaired. Have I just been lucky? Or is this something that could possibly happen but ususally doesn't?

Roger ...when you live more than a specified distance (something like 30 or 50 miles, I don't recall exactly) from a US Port of Entry. I can't really answer your question about not getting tagged, since I've never sent a watch to Switzerland for repair without including that form. I can tell you, however, that under the rules a Customs Duty is supposed to be charged on "the value of the repair" and I've never been asked to pay such a charge.

On watches that I've bought from non-US sources, I've been billed for the Customs tax about half of the time. Six watches in total -- 3 with bills for Customs and 3 without.
