HELP! real or fake Seamaster Pro
I purchased this watch pre-owned online. Authenticity was guaranteed. I have owned this model several times in the past and I don't think it is authentic. Seller tells me he bought it pre-owned from an authorized Omega dealer, and that he even had it recently serviced by "Omega Service in Pennsylvania". There is no documentation provided for either the initial purchase or the service.
Please let me know what you think. I have photographed things that are suspect to me. And, not visible in the photos is the fact that the bezel only clicks once per minute. As I recall, it should index in 1/2 minute intervals. If possible, please provide comments and/or photos to help us determine if this watch is authentic or a replica. I will send the seller a link to this discussion and hopefully we can resolve this issue quickly.
Thank you very much for your help.

Answer:
Sorry Jeff. I hope you are able to get your money back and prosecute this guy. Just from a quick glance:
The luminous mark on the bezel at 12:00 is wrong.
You can't see the threads of the crown tube when the crown is pulled out.
The notch for the crown comes all the way down to the case and doesn't stop short on a real one.
The Helium Escape Valve does not pull out when it unscrews.
The Fonts on the Date are wrong.
The Serial Number on the back of the 7:00 lug should be much more crisp.
The bezel should turn in 1/2 second clicks.
The printing on the bezel is wrong.
There appears to be crap under the crystal on the dial, but that would make sense if it was serviced in Lancaster <8~)
The luminous material on the markers at 12:00 is really sloppy.
I'll bet you $10 if you opened the case, you would not find an Omega movement.
Answer:
Case machining is wrong on the back near the crown. '300m/1000ft' font a bit too tall.
'OMEGA' a bit too small on the other hand.
Low quality machining of the case near the crowns - not exactly up to Omega standard.
The six holes for the case opening tool are too shallow. They are supposed to have a definite step all around, even at the point where the 'lip' is lowest.
I wouldn't take Keith's bet...
Frank.

Man, you're sharp. I thought Jeff's watch looked OK until I took my SMP off and compaired it side by side with the flaws you pointed out. Amazing.

Hi Jeff R., I once came across a website selling this type of fakes, and I saved some pictures in my computer. I just composed several pictures to prove that it is indeed a fake. This particular fake is very well made (even the movement has cote de geneve finish), which can easily fool an inexperienced jeweler.
The previous replies pointed out many fake spots. To me, the following seems to be more obvious:
(1) The crown guard shape.
(2) The bezel dot.
(3) The spring bar holes.
(4) Of course the movement, the ultimate indicator.
(5) The serial number: Ironically, this type of fake seems always have 30198259 as serial number.
I am not surprised that you got a fake like that. There are a lot of them on ebay, many sellers are victims too, for example:
Fake I
Fake II
Since the pictures on ebay are often bad, the above bigger features can help to identify this fake from distance.
Good luck,
mjb

Although I personally had no doubts that this watch was fake, I sincerely appreciate your post and photos. I will let you know how it works out. JR

If you take a look on the Omega web site you will notice that the GMT Seamaster has a crown identical to the fake watch. Almost as though they copied the wrong case.
Answer:
Well, I spoke to the seller by phone tonight and he agreed to refund my money. Thank you all again for your help. He seemed genuinely shocked to learn that it is fake and I think I believe him. He confirmed that he bought it pre-owned from an authorized Omega dealer in MS. The jewelry store is still open, but no longer carries Omega. He also confirmed that Omega Customer Service in Lancaster PA serviced the watch last year. It is obvious that the hands were replaced as they glow much brighter than the dial. So I believe it was serviced somewhere. Does anyone here believe Omega Customer Service center could have serviced and returned a fake watch? I have heard plenty of negative stories about that center, but could they be that incompetent? They are now closed, correct? Unfortunately he has no documentation of the original sale or service. I suspect very few buyers would have questioned the watch. It is terrible that these convincing fakes are out there, and there are many who don't know they are wearing them. Beware of serial number 80198259.
Thank you all,
Jeff Roessler

Does anyone know why the crown notch differs on the GMT models?
Answer:
Fake! One more remark:
figures in a window date of other style, for example in the real on figure digit 7 are not present a curl on the end downwards, but here we can see it.

Answer:
As noted, you shouldn't be able to see either crowns' screw-down threads. The red tip on the second marker should extend a hair farther down the hand, to the flourescent orb.
There is an overall lack of "crispness" every where you look. Still, I'll bet you couldn't tell from 5' away.

Just checking.

Yes! That's crazy! What a coincidence! I hope you get your money back on the watch. I have the very same that you purchased (though I bought mine new) and I love it. Are you going to play FF this year? It's coming up sooner than I realized.
