Newbie needs help
This is my first post on this forum. I bought a new Seamaster chronograph(a week old), it seem it looses 15 minutes per eight hours if in the chrono active mode. It seem like it's unreasonable. I called the store and was told it's normal because I have the chrono running constantly and it drains the power so it runs slow. I called Omega and they said the same thing.
Any opinion/experiences from owners?
Thanks in advance.

Answer:
I do know that is total BS. Many people leave their chrono functions running because they like the large second hand movement. Hell on the rare occasion I have a chrono I do this as well, and never have I experienced a time lose like that.
It shouldn't effect time keeping at all.
There are quite a few members here with more knowledge then I maybe they'll weigh in on this one too.

Answer:
Loses 15 MINUTES per 8 hours? That is completely unacceptable performance. I can't speculate as to what's wrong with that watch, but I would request (then demand) a refund or a replacement with a watch that keeps proper time with the chronograph running and not running. What's the purpose of a chronograph that doesn't record time properly? None.
Seek Refund or Replacement. If you paid on a credit card talk to them about disputing a charge, etc...
Answer:
A Chronograph with the Chrono engaged will have a VERY small amount of added drag because the Mvmnt is driving an extra hand and clicking over the Minute Counter. I'd accept a second or so over 12 hours, not 15 MINUTES over 8. NO WAY it should cause this kind of loss. Take it back....
Have them demonstrate how all the other Omega chronographs they have lose 15 minutes in 8 hours.

The seamaster Chrono is a great watch, you however seem to have received a defective one. Please do not accept it... ~Dave
Answer:
That's almost 30 seconds every 15 minutes. Crazy that the AD would say this is normal. Have them take out another chrono and start yours and theirs at the same time in the store. Wait 15 minutes and then compare the two. When the other one is almost dead on tell them you want another watch. Should do the trick. Let us know how you do.

at 12noon. I happen to catch my watch at 11:59:45.. and thought I'd check how my Chrono is running.. so i synchronized at 12:00:00..
at 8:15pm, i checked and it was bang on the second.
8 hours, 0 seconds off.
I have the Deville coaxial chronograph. (3313 calibre)
I've also ran it for 12+, 24+ and 30+ hours before (when i first got it to check it due to the potential 33XX problem), and it was bang on the second each time as well.
Your difference is unacceptable.
I recommend you try this a couple of more time.. with no meaning of disrespect, but you might have just remembered your start time wrong?
If indeed faulty, get a refund. Your AD is full of crap, and doesn't deserve your business.
Good luck!

Time loss of that mangitude indicates something wrong with the watch. Since it's new, I'd take it back to the AD you bought if from (hopefully it's not a grey) and exchange it.
Answer:
where I got my seamaster (not chrono), I was gaining 4 minutes an hour, which would be 32 minutes per 8 hrs. I called my AD that I bought it from (everyones favorite one). I then drove in and exchanged it for another one. That one has lost 42 seconds over 2 months. Timing is everything..... Today I have: Ulysses Nardin GMT Big date, Pam 111 PAM 232m Omega PO, Bathy MOP Black Benthic, Bathys Black/Black Benthic, Bathys Aquaculture Rose Gold, Bathys 100f UV Auto, Bathys Quartz Black, Bathys Quartz Silver, and a Marathon T-SAR (as a beater).
Answer:
Is the watch keeping good time when the chronograph is NOT engaged? Was the watch fully wound when you noticed error? The chronograph should not have that big a effect on the time keeping. As far as I can understand, the chronograph start/off buttons only engage/disengage certain gears to the time keeping module. The beat rate is hardly disturbed if everything is well lubricated.
I can see this happening only when there is something wrong with the time keeping module (escapement) regardless of the chronograph, or the mainspring almost has no power reserve.

Answer:
We can't ALL be wrong in telling you that your watch is defective. What I can't believe is that both your AD and Omega told you this was normal? Whoever you spoke to at Omega should be fired on the spot for such incompetence. In fact, Omega reports that their watches should lose less than 2% of their power reserve having the chronograph running continuously. You deserve a refund or exchange, period.
Answer:
there is something wrong with the chronograph mechanism; if the watch keeps time with the chron off, the the problem is in the chrono. Get the watch replaced. A. Charles Beddoe Harvard, MA

Answer:
Hello, Thank you for the inputs. This watch really needs to be replaced or even flat out returned and buy from another AD. If they tried to pass this as normal I dont want to do biz with them.
With green eyes, I must admit, I'm not the owner of the watch I originally posted. I just posted for a friend because I got the impression that he almost believed the answers he got and I would feel bad knowing it is really broken and he'd end up keeping it as is.
