Incoming !! Lesser known Seamaster diver
Well Guys,
It's Sunday evening, I've had my eye on a watch in the "site that cannot be mentioned" for about a week now & put a bid in at the last second & won it !
Here it is... sellers pics used..
Now doesn't that just look like a big pile of "something" that you want to put in a drawer & forget !
BUT, imagine it had a bezel insert in it.
& then imagine you already owned it's twin brother...
Now, if you look at the 2 pics, you'll see quite a few differences. The hands are COMPLETELY different.
This worried me for a while. I KNOW the hands on the black dialed variant are correct,I have never seen any other hands on that variant. BUT I'd never seen a silver variant before.
I did some research....
The case ref of the Black one is 166.0251 / 366.0858 ( it is marked with both ). Omega Vintage Information ( available via the Omega.ch website ) list both a silver & black dialed variant under the Case ref 366.0858.... WOW !
It is possible that the watch has been re-dialed at some stage. the positioniong of the word AUTOMATIC, SWISS MADE is missing & the word Seamaster looks to be a bit "shaky".
So I only have to "verify" the hands now...
Then I found this website
http://www.rolexsamler.dk
& more specifically this page....
http://www.rolexsamler.dk/gb_omega_sea_120.htm
So, the hands are also 100% correct !
BTW, neither of these variants are listed in the "japanese Seamaster book".
The watch contains a 1010 movement, which looks to be in MINT condition ( No water damage here ! ) & I can't see any corrosion on the case back.
So, this beaut may be getting the "Bienne" spa treatment when she arrives.
I love it when you find a watch, that you never even new existed. Check it out ( don't you LOVE google ? ), it turns out to be a "lesser" known variation & then you win the auction, for less than some people pay for a bracelet.
I hope your weekend was as good as mine.

When your watch gets out of order you have a choice of two things to do: throw it in the fire or take it to the watch-tinker. The former is the quickest. -MT

i had my eye on this one too. nice watch! Jayson
Answer:
They should be lumed but the ones in your pic look to be plain steel. Of course it may just be the pic. It definitely looks to be a redial as it is the alternate model to the one you have and the layout is wrong, "Omega" and "automatic" too small and in the position of other Omegas i.e together.
However it could just be another dial fitted, there are plenty of Omegas of that style.
Be interested to hear your thoughts when you get the watch. Cheers, Neil.

Congratulations Stewe ... I remember an email from you asking me about my SM 120 ... Now you have found one of your own - congratulations !
I guess they must be a bit rare, so mine (a N.O.S. piece) will probably "stay on" in my collection for more than a year or two ;)
