Slow PO

After 3 days my new PO is running about 8 sec slow per day so I have a few questions

1 Given that it has probably been not running for months while sitting in the AD window, is it likely to get faster in the breaking in period?

2 Is having it regulated something that would be covered under warranty? The watch after all proudly claims to be a chronometer!

3 Is it common that movemets that meet COSC specs should slow by at least 7 sec per day when sold as new? (The watch was bought new from an AD)

4 What overnight resting position is likely to speed it up? I have tried crown up and crown down without appreciable difference. Damn that stable coaxial movement!

Don't get me wrong, I love the watch and I don't time my life down to the last 8 seconds. I was just hoping/expecting it to run to COSC specs out of the box.

Answer:
best bet is let the AD fix the problem
Answer:
Just a few points here...

1. Is your watch fully wound? Although it should not affect the rate much, but it helps to have a fully wound watch to determine accuracy.

2. Sitting in a window for months also should not affect the rate, as the synthetic oils used for watch movements will not thicken or run off the jewels that would be a cause for a watch to slow down.

3. Crown up or down positions will actually slow down the 2500 movement. Use dial up or dial down positions to speed it up.

4. While it is helpful to let your AD know that watch is running slower than COSC it should meet, I wouldn't let AD fix it. Unless he sends it to OMEGA. Often, AD would use his watchmaker to adjust the watch, and many guys ended up having more problems after that - such as dust under the crystal, scratches etc... Plus - cal. 2500 beat is not a usual beat that most of the calibration machines are set to. It very unlikely that AD would invest good chunk of money to get the OMEGA co-axial specific machine that will be used just a few times a year.

I would deal with OMEGA in Switzerland directly.

Hope this helps.

My PO started out running a bit slow...after figuring out the "Crown up/Crown down resting position it now runs about 1 second per day fast...this in about a little over 2 weeks...
Answer:
Crown up is the position when cal. 2500 runs the slowest. Crown down will speed it up a bit. I don't think it is faster than dial down. In any case, when you say "..a bit slow.." was it out of COSC range? Regards, LimoGuy
Answer:
That is way out of COSC specs (-4/÷6 sec/day). I would take it back to the AD to see what he can do with it once you've made sure it's fully wound (30-40 turns) and worn it for a week. I'm guessing he'll give you a new one or send it back to Omega to get it fixed, avoiding your having to pay for the shipping.

As far as regulating the watch, an Omega service center will do that for you within the warranty (I'm having that done now on a watch that consistently runs -2 per day). However, what you are talking about may go beyond simply regulating the watch.

I had a PO that did have a settling in period that took a couple of weeks. After that it ran about ÷.5 per day. But it never ran -8 per day.
Answer:
I'll wind it up and rest it dial down. I will see what it's doing when I return from holidays in 2.5 weeks.

If it is still running slow and it is still bugging me would a simple regulation on a coaxial movement be able to be done locally? If not, what would the turn around time be if the watch was sent to Omega for regulating?

The good thing is that the time loss so far seems pretty consistant which I hope means there is nothing fundamentaly wrong with the movement.
Answer:
Limo guy,
it was running about 4-5 seconds slow the first week...after resting it crown up, it runs just about perfect...maybe half a second to a full second per day fast...As a matter of fact, today it is spot on all day... :)
Answer:
My only concern with getting it done locally is whether this would void the Omega warranty. There are any number of authorized service centers that are listed on the website that would ensure that isn't an issue. I doubt the shipping cost would be that great either, as they are spread out over the US (since you're not talking a complete overhaul, I think you would do OK with any of them).
