Incoming...new "beater"...(long)

A few recent threads and discussions with other WIS really had me thinking over the last few weeks about buying "high end" tool watches that end up being coddled, never seeing the real world uses that the manufacturers intended - dive watches in particular.

I'm personally very partial to diver’s watches - but have two Seiko Monsters that have been my go-to beaters over the last 7-8 years, and a Rolex Sub 14060 that I'll use for fresh water extreme activity only.

I was driven by the fact that I'll travel the world from the lake house to the Caribbean with the Monsters, leading them headlong into harm without a second thought, but wouldn't consider exposing my other "babies" to that kind of abuse. All the while inwardly amazed that the Seikos had stood up to the task as advertised.

So I got to thinking about buying a "professional" watch and from the second it came out of the box, using it as such. Throwing whatever came my way at it (some of you are saying, "Duh!" and others "What about the hologram...?".

I was fairly certain that I wanted to add a watch that I already knew and loved, and likely already owned - but considered my options, being open to anything out there.

After a lot of thought about which piece would best suit me and the activities it would be subjected to - the Omega PO arose as the choice - just edging out the IWC Aquatimer in Titanium (assisted by its available larger case size (I went with the 45.5mm), readily available exterior timing bezel and vastly superior lume).

So thanks to our favorite AD, my new "beater" arrived minty fresh on Friday, ready to be used "professionally".

I'm hoping that in another 7-8 years I can revisit this post and extol the virtues of treating a professional watch as god and maker intended - in the way that I can now readily verify with my two Seiko monsters.

Thanks for reading...here are some pics of the new arrival (before his adventures):

And just in case, I'll have still have this one to coddle (hopefully it won't become jealous...)

Cheers...

Michael

Answer:
When your watch gets out of order you have a choice of two things to do: throw it in the fire or take it to the watch-tinker. The former is the quickest. -MT
