2 questions on Seamaster and PO
I have a couple questions:
1) Is the face and bezel of the Seamaster GMT the same color as that of the Seamaster 300m (220.80)? On the pics, they look slightly different.
2) What are the tradeoffs in choosing between a Seamaster 2220.80 and a Planet Ocean 2209.50? Apart from price and slightly larger case size for the PO?
Thanks,
JD
Answer:
1) The face/bezel color of GMT seems the same as 2220.80; 2) PO 42mm is about the same size as 2220.80, but 2220.80 is thinner and looks bigger than PO. PO has deeper water resistance rating.
As a comparison, 2531.80 is exactly the same size as 2220.80. Both POs are 42mm. mjb
Answer:
MJB, since you have both, would the bracelet on the 42mm PO fit on your SMP 2254.50? I've always wanted to try, but never had both watches at the same time. Thanks!
Answer:
I haven't tried that yet. At a glance, the PO bracelet has thicker end pieces. If the springbar location is just slightly off, PO bracelet probably won't fit.

Answer:
Having owned a 2531, a 2254 and a PO I can tell you that the PO is the "nicer" watch. It's the little things about the PO like the polished/brushed beveled case and the applied markers that make it feel more refined then the smp 300's.
Having said that, it is hard to go wrong with a black smp pro for the $$$ as it is a great watch as well.
Answer:
Thanks, that's what I figured. Which do you prefer, the black PO or the 2254.50? I'm undecided. Thanks.
Answer:
The workmanship of PO seems better than that of SeMP, especially the dial and bezel. Other than that, I'm still trying to figure out which one I prefer. :-) If you are considering a new watch, I'd recommend PO. Regards, mjb
Answer:
I personally like the Planet more because it's trimmed out just a little nicer than the 2254 but that being said NOW is the time to get a 2254 as with it being phased out of the lineup in the future it is a very good valued watch with the 1120 movement. When and if it comes back most assume it will have the co-ax on board for a substantial increase of money. My 2254 just doesn't not get the wrist time my Planet does now but it's a hell of a watch rest assured.
Answer:
Seamaster and it doesnt work. The SEL's fit perfectly, but the springbar holes in the lugs of the watches dont align - they are out by a fraction of a mm or so. i initially wanted to replace the Seamaster basketweave bracelet with a simpler bracelet like the PO's but ended up ordering a 2254 style bracelet instead
will post pics when i get the bracelets
cheers

Answer:
They do share the same lug width, but the case size is different - therefore the curve where the case meets the bracelet is different.

Answer:
Thanks for answering my questions... Now to decide one or the other... Hmm... the dilemma.
Answer:
The 2254.50 bracelet (i.e. Speedy Style) *will* most likely fit the 42mm PO but only if you swap the end-pieces from the PO bracelet!!! Best regards!
