automatic Vs quartz price

I was at Breitling AD and I was told by one of their agents that the difference between quartz and automatic movement for the same watch is no more than 200 dollars.
I was shocked since I know that top brands, i.e. Omega, there is usually around 1000 dollors difference between quartz and automatic (same model) especially for the Co-Axial techonology.
Any feed back would be appreciated.
Answer:
Sorry this was supposed to go into the Breitling forum.. I posted it here by a mistake.
Answer:
Quartz watches are simply more reliable. They rarely need service within warranty period.

For automatics, the likelihood of being sent back for service is much higher. Even if the movements cost the same, automatics need to be priced much higher to cover those costs. mjb
Answer:
I am not concerned about Automatic having a higher price tag. I agree it should. The mechanic itself is more complicated and needs to be serviced.
I was just surprised that Breitlings automatic watches are similar in price as the quartz version? Meaning either automatic is cheap or the quartz is overpriced.
Answer:
I would go with overpriced
Answer:
that the cost to the manufacturer (Omega, Breitling etc) of quartz and automatic movements is not as great as you might think.

Answer:
don't forget the overhead that all high end watch companies have. This means that not only must the price of their product be quite high, but the cost must be quite low.

Omega, Breitling, Rolex do not sell 25 million watches, so they must maximize their profit margin per watch.

Answer:
But still, that does not justify quartz watch being as expensive if not more expensive than its auotmatic sister.
