Do magnetic resonance image scanners magnetize watches?
How far away do you have to be?
Do you wear your watch on a hospital floor where there are Magnetic resonance image scanners? You do not wear any watch around those tools.
Not even in the room they are in.
Don't try. An MRI scanner uses a magnetic field of about 1,5 Tesla (depending on model), that is a very strong magnetic field and it is constant ON regardless if the scanner is in use or not for the moment. If you enter the examination room wearing your watch it will become highly magnetized and useless as a timekeeper. You would have to send it for repair. Fortunately the MRI scanner is installed with a metal cage surrounding it (built into the walls of the examination room) so outside the room, or on the same floor as you mention, there is no risk of having your watch magnetized. But remember, don't bring any (magnetic) metal into the exam room. Serious accidents has happened, for example with oxygen tanks brought into the room. Thanks. and made my wife come with me so she could take possession of my watch while I was in having the MRI. Like the others have said, those machines are HIGHLY dangerous to watches. Better to leave your watch at home if no one is going to be there with you.
