New to this forum and I admit that I have contracted the Monster virus
I eventually sold it becuase in the back of my mind I wanted a Swiss movement in all my watches and this was the first Seiko I ever owned.
On my quest to find a replacement I kept on looking back at the picture of my Yao Monster and I just couldn't get it out of my head... so in the end I replaced it with this:
If isn't a Yao but it is a bit more unique. Bead blasted case, PVD'd bezel and lumed to match the indicies and hands. Glows like a reactor when charged up which is great for the vampire I am.
So now my heart is a bit more at ease now and I just sent another BM to have it Yao'd so I can sleep again at night and not have to search through the Sales Corner for a beater watch.
Now I understand... once bitten by a Monster you can't ever let it go.
Answer:
Wow, that Yao is a beauty! I'm a recent OM owner and I am just sorry I did not do it sooner. The watch is definitely THE best bang for your buck!

First, I would leave the Monster alone--altering the dial spoils the watch, IMO. But, tastes differ, and it's your watch. So enjoy. Second, the modified dial is nothing more than an Omega clone. I wonder why so many people want their watch dial to mimic a SMP or Planet Ocean? Didn't we all get tired of the Rolex look-a-likes? The time has come, the Walrus said, to talk of many things: of shoes--and ships--and sealing wax--of cabbages and kings....
Answer:
Well I think the clean look of the MoD dial with the Monster scalloped bezel and case is quite attractive looking. I only realized now that the dial on my PVD bezelled watch is charcoal grey compared to the black dial on my newest one.
Answer:
Well, I would think that people who dream up modified dials could be a little more original than just fashioning something that looks 95% like an Omega SMP or PO dial. Not very creative in my book.

Answer:
I happen to like the look of the SMP dial. I just can't justify paying the luxury price and suffering the lousy service that Omega currently has. So, the Seiko 100M SNZ389 to the rescue. Very affordable on the 'net and quite a looker for less than 1/10th the cost of an SMP.
Sorry, I don't have a pic, but you can see it easily enough on the bay.
Answer:
I don't know which Seiko you're referring to. I'm speaking to those who create "modified" replacement dials that try to make a Seiko or other watch look as if it was a Planet Ocean or SMP. I just think they should try to be more original and create a "distinctive" dial for after-market.

Answer:
I agree with you that making a distinctive dial part. The unique look of the Monster was the main reason I now own a couple of them and having a clean, yet unique and original aftermarket dial would be nice.
Answer:
Very nice! How did you change the bezel? Very cool.
