My latest Vintage

My latest (and first) e-bay purchase. I paid 139 pounds (UK) (approx $88 US), and maybe paid too much? I am not sure of what year etc this watch was made, but have got a quote of 65 pounds for a full service from an excellent company who are also official Omega servicing agents. (full service and clean-no dial restoration-wish to keep as is). I most prob will buy a hone croc strap for the watch(If worth a substantial amount, may consider a Cornelius Kauffman)A 9K gold Benson watch. (solid?) On the front of the dial is written J.W. Benson London Made In England. Measuring just under 1 inches Lug to Lug and Appr. 1 inches in diameter. On the inside of the back cover this is marked 12383 J.W. Benson LTD. Made In England This is also Hallmarked 9ct. Gold and another impressed No 877362. On the inside back of the watch is written 16 jewels J.W. Benson England C452789. The covering on the face would appear to be of a plastic type material and not glass. This is also Hallmarked on one of the Lugs 9ct. Gold. The strap is made of Leather.Any comments on year etc and what would you of paid for it?
Cheers

Answer:
Sorry-My calcs were wrong-paid $218 US (139 pounds UK)
Answer:
Hi Dimitri, first of all, I do not know anything about the quality of this watch. J. W. Benson of London made fine watches since 1749, however this movement looks quite ordinarily (actually it is very similiar to the movement of my Smiths, also made in England). Maybe I am wrong. In my humble opinion, any gold wristwatch in such a good cosmetical condition is worth 139 Pounds, regardless what movement is inside. According to the description, you will probably have to spend some additional funds for cleaning.I like your watch. Wear it an enjoy it!Martin
Answer:
Thanks Martin! I am new to vintage watch collecting, and really liked this model. I will have to spend a bit (65 pounds for a complete service, and most prob will buy a good honey coloured croc strap)
cheers
Dimitri
Answer:
which are also 9k gold. Mine were sold only in the U.K., but are actually swiss watches. If I had to guess, I'd say that your watch is from the late 50's, early 60's. I'd pay what you did no problem. I love vintage watches. Most are excellent timepieces, funky, and a fraction of the cost of new. Congrats.
Answer:
I certainly would have paid as much or more for it. The movement is probably pedestrian, and with a cleaning you'll probably have a really nice find! Congrats!

That's a real beauty, nice Roman numerals. I have a 9K Elgin made for the English market and it's one of my favorites. Get it serviced and get it on the wrist and enjoy it! Tom.
